| The Human Factor in Data Security - results of a research |

Among the most frequent bad habits are password sharing, using the same authentication credentials for more accounts, using unencrypted memory sticks (and not informing the company if these disappear) and leaving the computer unattended during working hours. No wonder that only 9 % of the respondents stated their company has never experienced a data leak incident. In the last two years, 26 % of the cases were caused by mishandling data, 19 % constituted lost laptops or portable data-bearing devices, and 12 % of the cases happened because of a deliberate employee action. Hacker attacks were responsible for just 4 % of all data leak incidents. However, it is not always easy to detect a data leak incident: 56 % of the cases were detected accidentally, 28 % were revealed after the customers had pointed to it, and only 19 % of the cases were reported by the customers themselves.
